A venue with harbour history
Altona’s fishing harbour was laid out at the end of the 19th century; its fish auction hall was built in 1895/96. Trading by the water in Altona goes back even further: the Altona fish market has existed since 1703 and today takes place every Sunday morning on Große Elbstraße. Platz am Fischereihafen carries this history in its name.
Today the venue is MIGNON’s open-air event location for corporate events, summer parties, product presentations, markets and private celebrations. The 1,500 m² open-air space holds up to 3,000 guests standing, up to 400 guests seated. The exact number depends on stage, catering and weather protection. Bookable all year round, depending on your concept. More on the space and facilities: the venue.

On Hamburg’s String of Pearls
The new buildings along Altona’s riverbank between the fish market and Neumühlen are known in Hamburg as the Perlenkette, or String of Pearls. Three of its buildings are close to the venue:
- Dockland (2006, Bothe Richter Teherani): an office building at the tip of the Edgar-Engelhard-Kai. According to BauNetz Wissen, its roof terrace is open to the public via outdoor stairs and designed as a viewpoint.
- Elbkaihaus (von Gerkan, Marg und Partner): the neighbour on the east side of the venue.
- Columbia Twins (Carsten Roth): the neighbours on the west side.
Groups with a little time can walk along the water: downstream towards Övelgönne or upstream towards the fish market.
Arriving by harbour ferry, public transport or car
HADAG harbour ferry 62 runs as part of Hamburg’s public transport network (HVV) from Landungsbrücken to Finkenwerder and stops at the Dockland (Fischereihafen) pier. For guests coming from the city centre, the journey becomes a short harbour trip.

Things to do nearby
If you are inviting guests from elsewhere, you can combine your event day with places in the area:
- View from Dockland: the roof terrace was designed as a public viewpoint over the Elbe and the harbour; check access before visiting with your group.
- Museumshafen Övelgönne: historic ships on the riverbank, reachable on foot along the water.
- Altona fish market: every Sunday morning since 1703, from 5 to 9:30 am between April and October and from 7 to 9:30 am between November and March. A good option for guests staying over the weekend.
- Harbour ferry 62: the ride to Landungsbrücken is a harbour trip on a regular public service.
- Hafenlocation Hamburg: for conferences, workshops or dinners indoors, MIGNON has another venue on Van-der-Smissen-Straße. See combine indoor & outdoor.
Not to be confused with
In Altona, Fischereihafen refers to more than one place. Platz am Fischereihafen, PAF for short, is the open-air event venue by MIGNON at Große Elbstraße 147. The Fischereihafen Restaurant at Große Elbstraße 143 is an independent restaurant nearby and not part of the venue. The Altona fish market and the Fischauktionshalle are around 1.3 kilometres upstream.
